Culling Information

What is your approach/method to Culling?*

Many photographers have different ways of selecting images. This is an important step for us to learn and we would like to know more about your decision making when culling.

What are your must select photos when Culling?*

For each and every cull there is a checklist that we go through for key moments in weddings/elopements that we want to make sure we select. The kiss/ring exchange etc. Each photographer is different however and captures unique photos that is part of their own ‘mental checklist’. What are some of the regular/frequent photos you take at each shoot that you want us to include?

How do you make image selections from similar photos in a sequnce?*

Often we have sequences of photos with many beautiful moments within. What do you preference in terms of; Facial Expression, Candid/Moment or Technical Acuracy (Exposed Correctly/Sharp/Well Composed). Tell us how you make these selections.

Do you preference landscape or portrait photos in selection?*

Often getting the image count down to a target number is tricky. Would you like a version of each to be selected or happy to have preference one over the other?

Are you happy for us to include photos shots where there are some eyes closed?*

On occasion we might find a candid group or some group photos where there are eyes closed in each photo. Are you happy for us to promote one or two of these so they can be combined into one photo? Please explain more.

Are you ok if we select a captured moment even if eyes are closed in the frame?*

Emotional or not, sometimes there are some beautiful moments but one or more eyes are closed in the moment. We have found some clients must select these, where others do not.

Are you ok if we select an awkward photo if the moment is perfect?*

We all know that shooting candid moments is tricky. From time to time we come across an awkward photo (either compositionally/framing or technically) that has captured a great moment. Are you happy for us to include this in your cull or would you favour technically accurate photos?

No – Pick a better technical photo if there is one available

Are you happy for us to cull harder than your target number?*

When you submit a culling job to us we ask you to select a ‘Image Target’ for us to aim for when culling. On occasion some catalogs could be culled even harder and below the image target. Are you happy for us to go lower than your image target or do you want us to stick to the supplied image target?
